Miles Hall

About the Artist

Miles Hall studied at the Queensland College of Art receiving a PhD in 2010. He now is based in Montpelier, France teaching Painting at l’Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Montpellier Contemporain MO.CO. ESBA.The painted surface of Hall’s work has always been the site where the experience of space and gesture, colour and surface are in a dynamic exchange. There is layering and an almost opening of the surface in places where colour is illuminated from within. In Graphemism//Damp Earth Hall seems to be untangling the overlap and distance between the written word and the spoken word. Not unusual when you learn a second language and make work in one country and send it to another for exhibition. Speaking and thinking, thinking and writing energise this work.

Hall exhibits in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Paris , Krakow.

His work is in the following collections: Artbank, Australian Catholic University, Bendigo Regional Gallery, Brisbane Childrens Hospital, Bryon School of Art, Caloundra Regional Gallery, Caboolture Regionl Gallery, Earthwatch International, Ecole Supérieur des Beaux-Arts Montpellier, Grafton Regional Gallery, Griffith University Art Collection, James Hardy Library of Australian Fine Arts, Lexus Motor Company, Polish Art Foundation, Redcliffe Regional Gallery, Shakespeare and Company Paris, Shandon University China, State Library of Queensland, Sunshine Coast Art Collection, The Julian Ashton Art School, University of Queensland Art Museum, Wesley Hospital.
